Saint-Gobain Industrial Maintenance Electrician in Albion, New York
This position is responsible for safely analyzing mechanical machinery malfunctions. The incumbent is also responsible for the safe installation, maintenance and repair of all machine tools, shop tools and maintenance of production and building equipment. Assures the proper maintenance of stock items required to perform the general responsibilities of this position. Required to complete a daily maintenance work log and issue purchase order requests for repair parts.
Responsible for moving and installing equipment, analyzing electrical, mechanical and pneumatic malfunctions, PLCs, and motor drives.
Disassembles, adjusts, repair and/or reassembles machine tool components, i.e. hydraulics, clutches, brakes, cross slides, turrets, lead screws, etc. Designs and fabricates parts and performs modifications. Design, update and modify electrical systems. Repairs or fabricates special parts by burning, welding and/or brazing.
Troubleshoots, analyzes and repairs all equipment, inclusive of electrical controls (with or without prints and with limited direction). Inspects, repairs, replaces, installs, adjusts and maintains electrical/mechanical equipment and machinery as required. Works from machine prints, sketches, manuals and/or verbal directives. Works with Engineering to resolve application problems or design new systems as may be required.
Responsible for the performance of scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) on all assigned machinery and equipment. Establishes and assures proper record maintenance.
Maintain appropriate supply of spare parts and maintenance supplies (reorder, as required); meet with vendors and negotiate pricing.
Meet with vendors and purchasing department.
Schedule and perform period inspections of assigned electrical equipment, looking for defects, proactive upgrading of equipment. Determine cause and perform necessary repairs. Investigate reports of electrical breakdowns and perform necessary repairs.
Responsible for performing required audits in addition to cleaning, painting and maintaining 5S or other efficiency management programs.
Responsible for observing safety precautions at all times.
Performs related miscellaneous work as required.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Electrical Machine Repair required. Two (2) year Technical Degree in Electronics is preferred; a High School degree is required. Technical Certificate required.
A valid forklift, aerial lift and driver’s license are preferred. The incumbent must possess knowledge of and experience with PLC programming and programming of AC/DC motor drives. Troubleshooting knowledge and experience as well as mechanical and electrical/electronic aptitude with knowledge of power transmission, bearings and seals and electrical components is a requirement of the position.
The incumbent must be fully capable of wiring, installing conduit and disconnects and other related electrical components in voltages up to 600 volts. Able to operate electrical switch gears and vacuums switches in voltages up to 600 volts. Must be able to interpret and update blueprints, schematics, machine manuals and drawings and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Analytical and problem solving skills, mechanical aptitude and effective communication skills are required. Must have a demonstrated ability of cooperation, leadership and willingness to assist fellow employees in a team-based work environment. The position is highly visible to all employees. The incumbent must interact with a variety of individuals and departments while exhibiting integrity, knowledge and acting as a role model.
Must have a willingness to work overtime and at times on short notice. Must be willing to carry the maintenance pager and be available to work outside of normal work hours as required on rotation.
Previous Manufacturing experience and length of time with Saint-Gobain will be strongly considered.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Ability to distinguish color to perform job functions.
Ability to move throughout all areas of the plant floor, receiving and outside perimeter of the facility
Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions
Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break
Ability to climb ladder/stairs to a height of approximately 8 feet and perform work at that height
