Responsible for decisioning loan applications on a global basis, in an efficient manner while maintaining quality in the decision making process. Ensure adhearance to company policy and federal regulations. Responsible for portfolio monitoring-change in risk profile. Responsible for RM support-mentoring. Collaberation with other deparments to ensure efficience in the loan booking process ensuring a positive customer experience.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Apply appropriate credit scoring model, relevant business practices and competitive score-based lending activities to provide credit support consistent with Company credit policies and procedures.

  • Support and maintain a strong communication network among peers to foster team work in implementing established programs and strategies.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Provide credit management (underwriting) support for Small Business Commercial portfolio, ensuring credit quality of the overall portfolio. Foster close relationships with District and branch management to ensure a team effort in servicing the small business customer from accepting of applications through closing loans with prepared instructions. Monitor delinquency, approval status and other facets of the portfolio, taking corrective action as appropriate.

  • Participate and assist in structuring credit facilities and negotiating terms and conditions. Review and approve submitted loan proposals under management guidance and direction; ensure timely submission and preparation of fundamentally sound credit proposals

  • Monitor portfolio credit quality and industry concentration consistent with Company credit policies while managing for value and reducing risk potential. Prepare forms for existing and proposed credit approvals, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Prepare annual renewals, transfer troubled credits and address delinquent accounts as assigned.

  • Participate in the portfolio review process for customers in the small business portfolio. Ensure proper action is taken on high risk accounts including line closure, reduction, or term out.

  • To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Head of Group Compliance, Global Business Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relations with regulators.

  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned

  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.

Observation of Internal Controls

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.


  • Minimum of at least three years proven and progressive commercial lending, credit and portfolio management experience or equivalent.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, related field or equivalent experience.

  • Credit training strongly preferred. Credit training or equivalent experience required.

  • Strong Analytical skills. Proven communications, analytical, planning, organizational, problem-solving, lateral thinking, decision-making and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be flexible and adaptable especially in regards to learning new systems.

  • Thorough knowledge of the Company’s lending and credit approval processes and regulatory, economic and competitive market forces affecting small business.

  • Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages.
