Position Summary :
The College of Agriculture and Life Science is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. This is a 39 hour per week position located in the Administrative Service Center (ASC) at the Cornell AgriTech in Geneva, NY.
As a member of the ASC team, support business service center activities such as events support, management of the on-line bookstore, purchasing/procurement card, travel reimbursements, accounts payable/receivable. Handle procurement requests and travel reimbursements from faculty and staff, process accounts payable requests to outside vendors, process incoming bookstore orders. Collaborate with Team Leader to periodically review standard operating procedures to ensure that they are up to date and accurate, and suggest revisions as needed. Work closely with Team Leader to resolve transactional problems. Work with central University offices to ensure accurate use of all university systems. Work directly with faculty and staff to resolve any questions or issues regarding transactions or financial policies.
Formal training beyond HS Diploma of six months to one year; with two years' accounting experience in an office setting. Proven and demonstrated proficiency with computer applications; MS Office; Excel, Word, Outlook. Must be able to understand and accurately apply account numbers, object codes, rules, and policies to transactions and understand impact on financial statements as well as initiate and complete reconciliations. Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and work with a broad range of people. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and prioritization skills. Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature; balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a range of choices. Able to seek assistance with conflicting priorities, and follow establish business rules. Demonstrate accountability in all work responsibilities. Must be comfortable working in an environment where change in process/procedures is the norm. Proceed alone on regular tasks, consulting with supervisor on questionable situations. Ability to work in a team environment; to be an effective contributor to the team organization and the ability to work with other team members in a positive atmosphere. Must be able and willing to enhance personal knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed. Must be able to adapt to changes in procedures and processes. Be responsive to change, offer and accept assistance, support and provide feedback to others in a collaborative cooperative and team-oriented manner . Must be willing and able to successfully complete and maintain certification in Cornell's Accounting Certification Program and Kuali training.
Exceptional customer service skills and some experience in event planning. Maintain high-level of professionalism and competence when dealing with clients. Ability to organize/prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously is essential. Appropriately schedule and manage projects to meet deadlines. Assist in events setup/teardown that may include heavy lifting, moving, and unpacking for long hours. Effectively executes events and maintains flexibility to work event hours. Is flexible with work schedule, including some evening and weekends. Requires travel to event sites with some overnight travel. Proficient computer knowledge is required (Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, database management, electronic calendaring and presentation software). Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Must possess and maintain valid driver license
Bachelor's degree with five or more year's related experience preferred. Prior high level administrative support experience in a not for profit or academic setting. Knowledge of Cornell accounting procedures helpful. Cornell University experience preferred including knowledge of Cornell University policies and procedures.
