Position Summary:

As a the Sr. Manager Engineering, you will be responsible for developing and leading a talented team of engineering professionals that provide a high level of engineering project, operations and development support. In this capacity, you will also attain and develop resources and manage your team as well as third-party contractors and/or consultants. In addition, you will identify, assess, and minimize technical risks through successful project task delivery.

Your primary objectives are to drive projects to successful and timely completion and to provide a high level of engineering support to ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the site Engineering team is visible and practicing the core 4i vales of Integrity, Innovation, Intensity, Involvement.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, transparency.

  • Develop and execute robust succession and development plans for the engineering teams.

  • Ensure that team members have the tools needed, and provide timely feedback.

  • Lead, coach, and motivate the site Engineering team; keeping them excited to move forward.

  • Safeguard the team from outside distractions.

  • Be accountable for assigned project deliverables, including product quality and schedule integrity.

  • Install robust communication mechanisms regarding project prioritization, resourcing, adherence and pipeline.

  • Organize and facilitate engineering planning, daily stand up meetings, reviews, release planning, product demonstrations, and other project related key milestone commitments.

  • Establish clear ownership for project tasks within the team and a clear schedule for when each task will be performed.

  • Track progress and review project tasks to ensure barriers are identified and removed.

  • Conduct regular status meetings with all stakeholders, keeping the stakeholder’s needs and requirements continuously in view.

  • Work collaboratively with site leadership to drive network initiatives, balance resource demands, and coordinate global team interaction.

  • Work collaboratively with functional leadership to ensure seamless and successful transition of engineering projects into production.

  • Determine if external partners / vendors are required to complete the project plan. If required, recruit and manage appropriate external resources.

  • Oversee review of engineering and resulting product design for compliance with engineering principles, organization standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

  • Able to travel as needed to other sites, customers and external development partners.

  • Other duties as defined within the scope of the position.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with 10+ years of experience or,

  • Master’s degree in a specific scientific discipline and/or engineering with 5+ years or leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead people, to work effectively with cross functional teams and to facilitate cooperation across functional boundaries and regional site locations.

  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • No non-compete agreements precluding the candidate from fulfilling the position requirements.

  • This position requires occasional travel to other Thermo Fisher Scientific, customer, and partner sites worldwide (approx. 0 – 10%).

  • Existing (or ability to acquire) permission to enter U.S. government facilities, such as DOE.
