Ademco Inc Engineering Program Manager in Melville, New York

This position requires a technical background, with experience and capabilities necessary to carry out the responsibilities listed below.


  • Ensuring that engineering department goals, metrics and objectives are met.
  • Establish and audit standardized tools and templates to use when leading cross functional team meetings
  • Create and manage schedules based on approved program scope
  • Direct and manage program development from requirement definition through production
  • Develop full-scale program plans and associated program deliverables required for the successful program execution
  • Effectively communicate program expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
  • Manage program risks, dependencies and critical path
  • Plan and schedule program timelines/ schedules using appropriate tools
  • Track program milestones and deliverables against the approved baseline
  • Communicate Program Status at all levels within the organization
  • Proactively manage changes in program scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans
  • Help drive the sharing of best practices across the program management team
  • Continuously evaluate the new product design, development, and release processes and suggest improvements to reduce product cycle times.
  • Audit and create program plans including schedule creation, gathering development cost estimates, and target cost information
  • Identify risks in the program schedules and assist in the creation of mitigation and contingency plans
  • Ensure that the corporate program tracking tool is kept up to date
  • Manage the gaps between functions to guide programs though the stage gated development process up to and including the launch to Sales
  • Manage program execution following Resideo execution model
  • Manage and Maintain program resource plan
  • Manage program execution via quantifiable metrics
  • Leverage program metrics to improve program execution

Key interface responsibility:

  • Engineering
    • Schedule and resources required
    • Cost estimates and tracking
    • Risk tracking and mitigation
  • Marketing
    • Coordinate MRD and PRD meetings
    • Manage Specification sign-off
  • Integrated supply chain
    • Coordinate the purchase of plastics parts and tools for the program
    • Identify and manage long lead parts on BOMs
    • Make sure that all parts are ready when prototypes are to be built
  • The Factory
    • Coordinate with the prototype line, make sure highest priority boards are built first
    • Set up a communication path that will allow for quick feedback when builds are delayed
  • Quality assurance
    • Arrange bandwidth allocation and timing

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher Degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • 7 years acting in the role of the Program manager in a consumer or commercial electronics development environment
  • Experience working with diverse teams in multiple global sites
  • Working Knowledge of Program Management Methodologies
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Prior Experience of successfully managing New Product Development programs in the role of program manager

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMP or equivalent certification
  • Detailed oriented
  • Excellent people skills including coaching and mentoring
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to negotiate priority with those that do not report to them
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills both up and down the organizational chain
  • Must be a self starter, achieving great results with minimum supervision
  • First hand experience managing programs and must be able to perform hands-on
  • Must have a history of meeting challenging objectives
  • Technical background with an understanding of what it takes to complete connected system designs
  • Experienced with standard program management tools such as Microsoft Program
