City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. We will rescue 64 million pounds of food this year and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community partners across the five boroughs. Harvest Season Assistant - Temporary 

New York City, New York, NY, US 


For thirty five years, City Harvest and The Daily News have partnered to host the Daily News Food Drive, the largest food drive in New York City, running from late October –the beginning of January (this time of year is referred to as “Harvest Season”). Running a food drive helps City Harvest stock shelves at food pantries and soup kitchens with food for the holiday season. 


The Harvest Season Assistant will provide customer service during Harvest Season by answering phone calls, scheduling donation pickups and answering emails while working closely with the Manager of Food Sourcing. The Harvest Season Assistant will also coordinate donor pick-ups with drivers on-the-road; and help maintain documentation for all donations. 


Candidate must be available the entire week of Thanksgiving and Christmas with no scheduled vacations for the duration of the position. 


Dates of Employment 

October 7, 2019 – January 10, 2020, Monday through Friday; 9am to 5pm. 


Key Responsibilities 


Schedule donor pick-ups using Microsoft CRM   

Track pick-ups in RoadNet   

Answer telephones, record all voicemails, return calls   

Receive and respond to e-mails regarding the Food Drive    

Data entry to document donors and pounds of food donated   

Track and report on daily pick-ups and keep Manager, Food Sourcing updated    

Follow up with donors and missed pickups   

Coordinate all Harvest Season efforts with Manager, Food Sourcing and Customer Operations Team    

Assist Manager, Food Sourcing with reporting; top schools and pickup anecdotes for social media   

Other duties as assigned as this is a busy time for the organization and lots of projects can pop-up on a daily basis  



Ability to learn proprietary software quickly or pre-existing knowledge of software such as Microsoft CRM, Salesforce or The Raiser’s Edge    

Ability to multi-task under tight deadlines in a high paced environment   

Excellent phone skills   

Excellent customer service skill with experience handling difficult situations and producing agreeable results   

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook    

Timely follow up and attention to detail    

Ability to think/work independently, using good judgment when situations arise for which there is no established protocol   

Ability to work in a team environment and communicate necessary information to team members  

Previous experience in customer service, logistics or event planning preferred
