About the Risk, Finance and Treasury Transaction cycle
Our Risk, Finance and Treasury (RFT) Technology team comprises c.3,500 colleagues operating across the UK, US, India and Czech Republic. We are accountable for the delivery of business change and technology transformation for Risk, Finance and Treasury Functions globally, working in partnership with our business customers to develop and implement long term strategic IT solutions to help achieve Barclays’ strategic goals.
We support over 450 applications and a user base of 7,000 staff across all Business Units, legal entities and major geographic hubs. We enable them to effectively manage capital and liquidity, assess internal and external risk metrics, meet regulatory reporting requirements and provide a strong second line of defence.

Overall purpose of role
The main focus of the team is to build state of the art data environment platform. The main focus of the role is to globally lead data environment development with extensive hands-on development work. Build Data Environment initially to support Bloomberg Data and current population of QISLib indices so we have stable end to end infrastructure in place with strategic API, ready for onboarding additional datasets, the developer/lead will heavily engage with all stakeholders including Front Office Trading, Market Risk, Product Control/Finance and Operations from various business areas
- Replace “QIS Data” service with Strategic infrastructure
- Onboard additional datasets - required to facilitate BPX index migration, required to facilitate Sledge/FPF index etc.
- Develop collaborative business relationships and coordination with multiple technology teams.
- Develop and Design high quality solutions to the problems the business faces.
- Be responsible for the quality of the teams output and make sure it meets the standards set by the Data Management Lead for the global team
- Ability to adapt to and explore new technologies
- Where applicable, providing mentorship and guidance to junior members of the team.
- L3 support
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science
- 5 years of software design and development throughout SDLC
- 5 years of hands-on Java Development experience
- 5 years of knowledge in databases & their SQL languages (e.g. Oracle, MSSQL, PL/SQL, TSQL)
- 5 years of experience with building service oriented architectures
- 5 years of having knowledge of core Java (Generics, Collections, Multi-threading, I/O) and Object Oriented design
- 3 years of Hands-on experience in working with MapR and/or other opensource distribution platforms
- Should be able to co-ordinate with team counterpart located across geographies (London, Prague, Pune)
- Knowledge of Market data provisioning systems from Reuters, Bloomberg, MarkIT.
