PMO Manager

job summary:

IT Program Management Office (PMO) Manager is responsible for balancing the portfolio of IT enterprise applications, infrastructure, and regulatory projects; facilitating on-time and on-budget project delivery, project prioritization and cancellations, financial management, resource management, reporting, and portfolio risk management across the project lifecycle; and aligning the PMO strategy with organizational goals and strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the Project Management function, providing leadership, coordination and management of PMO processes and functions

  • Determining the optimal balance across the portfolio of IT projects and making recommendations to stop a project when necessary

  • Developing a portfolio roadmap aligned with business goals and vision

  • Enhancing project delivery capability

  • Capacity planning including assignment and utilization across Project Managers

  • Executing screening criteria for project, intake, risk and change management

  • Providing a framework aimed at establishing standard performance measures, adhering to approved budgets, ensuring standardization, reducing duplication, and leveraging resources, including people, technology and processes

  • Developing and maintaining efficiencies and consistent project management standards and methodologies

  • Tracking benefits realization across the portfolio

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders with clear line of site to value creation

  • Analyzing, quantifying, and balancing risks at the portfolio level

  • Developing portfolio-level risk mitigation strategies

  • Identifying internal processes and technical improvement opportunities

  • Establishing use of tools, templates, reporting cadence, etc.

  • Providing leadership, support, and mentoring to project managers, project coordinators and analysts associated with the PMO

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science and/or 10 years' equivalent work experience

  • 5-10 years' experience in a portfolio & risk management role responsible for managing and delivering large-scale technical and/or content projects and programs

  • Ability to work and challenge all organizational levels

  • Ability to provide vision, strategy and leadership

  • Ability to foster and build collaborative working environment including, relationships with stakeholders, decision-making and problem solving Strong technology and business acumen required

  • Strong technology and business acumen required

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required

  • PMP / PRINCE certification preferred

  • Experience managing vendors and diverse project teams

  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

  • Self-motivated

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines

  • Excellent problem solving skills, including creative and efficient solutions for complex, time-critical problems

  • Strong analytical skills with a high attention to detail
