Our clients can access our investment solutions through a variety of product structures, including individual and institutional separate accounts, mutual funds and other pooled investment vehicles, and the industry-leading iShares® ETFs.This role will be a key member of BlackRock’s Portfolio Solutions team in BlackRock’s US Wealth Advisory business, with responsibility for delivering BlackRock’s views on portfolio construction, investment process best practices, and risk management to Wirehouse, Independent, RIA and Bank Wealth channel advisors in both group settings and one-on-one meetings. Responsibilities include preparation and delivery of investment consulting and portfolio analysis for BlackRock advisors in addition to in-field presentations across a range of portfolio construction-related topics. The successful candidate will work with investment advisors, in conjunction with BlackRock’s sales team members, to develop portfolio solutions and investment process guidance. As a Portfolio Strategist, you will be expected to:
Amplify the impact and opportunity of the BlackRock Model Portfolios platform – convey the message, educate on how to use the models as a part of a portfolio construction process and deliver the models as a stand-alone solution.
Introduce BlackRock tools, technology and properties that deliver access to components of BlackRock’s Aladdin® Risk Platform and educate how to incorporate these into an advisor’s process.
Present BlackRock thought leadership content with advisors in market ranging from portfolio construction theory, risk analytics, industry trends around portfolio construction, asset allocation and investment due diligence.
Deliver the value proposition of Portfolio Solutions – position resources, capabilities and services to exponentially increase demand for the consulting platform through group presentations and individual meetings.
Provide feedback with respect to ideas for new content and initiatives that can increase adoption or repeat usage of consulting.
Respond to client consulting requests by crafting robust, customized analyses. Types of requests include, but are not limited to, returns-based analysis, holdings-based analysis, return attribution and portfolio optimization exercises.
Build strong relationships with sales / distribution partners and advisory clients. Must approach the role as a business owner and be accountable for territory rotation and maintaining a full calendar of events and meetings.
Support USWA initiatives to create an Investment-Centric, Portfolio Construction-Centric and Consultative Selling Culture – partner with sales to socialize best practices across geographies and channels. Qualifications/Skills
BA/BS required. Advanced Degree / CFA / CAIA / CFP, or progress towards, is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 10 years investment or asset management experience.
Direct experience in the wealth management industry with an excellent understanding of the asset management sales process as it relates to investment advisors.
Strong analytical skills are essential for success in the role -- a background in portfolio construction and related disciplines are a must; with a background in statistics, econometrics or other technical disciplines desired.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Must demonstrate the ability to deliver impactful, technical and influential presentations.
Ability and willingness to travel 50-60% of time.
High level of self-motivation; ability to work independently with modest supervision.
Interest and aptitude for continued learning and practically applying portfolio construction and optimization approaches required.
Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, prioritize and collaborate vertically/horizontally in a fast paced environment.
Series 7 and 63/66 Required
Prior experience with MPI, Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, FactSet, and other types of financial analytics software is a plus.
