New York Times QA Engineer, Content Management Systems / Photos in New York, New York
Every day the New York Times delivers our journalism to millions of readers through our web and mobile platforms. Now we’re looking to expand on that success by building new photojournalism tools focused on improving how we ingest, store, and deliver our photography. We take an iterative approach to product development and believe strongly that focusing on code quality helps us move quicker. We’re looking for a QA engineer to join our team and take ownership of the testing process and works closely with our award-winning photographers, photo editors and journalists and build great photojournalism tools that enable our visual journalism to reach as wide an audience as possible.
You will be a part of the CMS group that creates innovative tools and products in-house using modern technology. Newsroom is our focus and the birthplace of all content of New York Times. This is a very dynamic team that cares much about the product and its quality, crucial for 24/7 newsroom’s operation. Multiple product development and delivery simultaneously is our everyday operation. We have weekly product show-and-tell sessions, regular hack weeks to explore new ideas, and frequently bring in industry leaders to discuss their work in product and technology development.
The ideal candidate is someone who cares deeply about the quality of the product and exposed to technology related to photo and video content. We’re looking for someone who is interested in new and innovative approaches to solving problems and is passionate about testing. As part of CMS team, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with other developers, designers and product managers.
Work as part of a cross-functional team including designers, newsroom editors and product managers to create and maintain new web and backend applications
Create clear and concise Test Plans
Work closely with developers to debug issues and find potential fixes
Provide Sign-off on Production releases by executing complete regression test cycles
Collaborate with offshore QA team to effectively plan work
Push the envelope for state of the art web and mobile applications development and testing practices
Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Computer Science or related field.
2+ years of experience testing Web Apps and Backend Systems.
Strong knowledge of different types of testing (STLC) and the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
Strong knowledge of Cross Browser Testing across Platforms on Web and Mobile.
Proficiency in performing manual testing, measure test coverage and drive best practices in testing
Solid understanding of basic Web Concepts like HTML, CSS, REST APIs, etc.
Experience working with resources in different geographical locations and offshore vendors
Experience working on Unix/Linux platform, FTP/SFTP, SQL and regular expressions
Experience working on photo and video content editing tools.
A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication skill is a must.
It would be great if you have:
Familiarity with testing web applications using automation frameworks such as Selenium WebDriver.
Good understanding of Continuous Integration and Deployment processes
Experience with distributed version control systems like Git or Mercurial
Experience in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
