Team Overview

Local Guides is the Google Maps community program for people who share their knowledge and make it easier for others to discover local places. Their contributions, like photos and reviews, help capture the latest information about the real world so Google can better assist users wherever they are with relevant and up to date information.

Overall Responsibilities:

Our team cultivates this community of users, by showcasing the utility of their contributions and building bridges that allow Local Guides to better connect with each other. We need a smart, driven, problem solving engineers to help us continue to grow our program. As a UX Designer for Local Guides, you'll help to design an improved user experiences for users and internal clients of Local Guides team, setting a foundation to help make Google Maps better for users around the world.

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:

  • Create wireframes based on Project Requirement Docs

  • Design user flows for the Local Guides web experience

  • Design and iterate based on feedback from larger team

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Local Guides Dev and Eng team implements everything to material design spec and Local Guides brand guidelines


  • Strong communication skills and ability to implement design changes based on varied feedback


Must Have Requirements:

  • Minimum 4+ years experience in UX Design

  • Expertise in adaptive/responsive design that works across screen sizes, including desktop

  • Experience designing mobile web apps

  • Experience with material design spec

  • Experience working directly with web developers and product teams

  • Familiarity with Sketch, PhotoShop, Illustrator and Google Apps

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience creating wireframes based on a Project Requirement Docs

  • Strong project management skills

  • Excellent organization practices

  • Experience establishing and managing internal brand guidelines
