SMBC VP, Sr Credit Officer I in New York, New York

Overview

SMBC is seeking a VP credit officer with strong credit and quantitative skills to analyze the credit risk and various elements of subscription (capital calls) and fund finance. Additional CRE/REITs/Gaming & Hospitality experience is a big plus.

The VP will critically review credit applications submitted by the front office and prepare executive summaries for approval by the bank's management.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze various risk elements of subscription finance in the Americas and present written executive

summaries to credit applications to the management of the Credit Department.

  • Maintain and oversee the credit quality of the portfolio assigned and provide feedback to business units to ensure consistent and complete credit applications. Also, provide guidance to business units, as necessary, to ensure compliance with internal standards.

  • Monitor and supervise problem loans including Warning Obligors and prepare written memorandum/reports for management.

  • Manage compliance with internal policies, work flow procedures, regulations, etc.

  • Other credit related works/projects as assigned, including flexibility to help with real estate transactions (CRE/REITs/ Gaming & Hospitality), when needed.

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of subscription finance, NAV facilities and fund finance in addition to corporate finance and accounting, is required. Additional CRE/REITs/Gaming & Hospitality experience is a big plus.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years relevant work experience in the credit department of a major commercial/ international bank.

  • PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel skills

  • Superior attention to details and critical thinking to focus on the key risks factors of highly structured transactions and visually present complex concepts with graphs, tables and flow charts.

  • Ability to quickly analyze a vast amount of information and render relevant and accurate credit decisions.

  • Risk sensitivity and ability to steer decisions through discussions with the business units.

  • Flexibility to work under tight deadlines and in a multitasking environment.
