Job Description

QSAC pursues this mission through direct services that provide a supportive and individualized setting for children and adults with autism to improve their communication, socialization, academic, and functional skills.

The Adaptive Physical Education Teacher ensures that physical education programs are developed and implemented in accordance with IEP goals, behavioral principles, QSAC Curriculum and the individual needs of every student.

• Complete formal and informal education assessments of each student

• Develop each student’s physical education curriculum in conjunction with the classroom teaching clinical team

• Write IEP goals, objectives and updates in accordance with official mandates

• Conduct physical education presentations and attend all pertinent pre IEP and IEP conferences, and Staff Meetings

• Collect daily data and record cumulative percentage of each student’s progress

• Apply and collect data of behavior management interventions and reinforcement procedures in accordance with each child’s behavior management plan and school policy

• Participate in Clinical/Parent meetings as needed

• Interact with parents, college interns, professionals other interested visitors through classroom observation and informative conversation on education programming for individuals with autism and school philosophy

• Help individual with autism develop motor ability

• Promote generalization of individually learned skills both in and out of the school environment

• Confer weekly with the Director on the progress of the Adapted Physical Education Program

• Meetings – attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings

• Maintain neat and accurate records

• Maintain participant/family confidentiality

• Ensure health, safety & welfare of individuals

Requirements

• New York State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher

• B.A. or MA Degree in Adapted Physical Education/Physical Education

• Must have experience or be willing to be trained in applying behavioral teaching techniques in adapted physical education programming
