The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner’s primary responsibility is to provide coverage for the intensive care units in collaboration with physicians and other members of the care team. This coverage includes, but is not exclusive of routine care of critically ill patients, intensive care consultation, admissions, transfers and discharges.

Current certification by the America Nurse’s Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as an Family, Adult or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Current New York State registration and license as a registered professional nurse & nurse practitioner.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS)

Current Advanced Life Support (ACLS)

Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Current National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training certification

Current New York State prescription privilege

Current DEA number or eligible for DEA number

Current Infection Control training certification

Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership, and to develop and maintain cooperative, professional relationships with all members of the team.

Interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel when exchanging patient information.

Ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families, and the ability and skills necessary to attend to special needs relating to the patient's age and diagnosis.

Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating equipment, and recording data in patient charts.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads.

Strong prioritization & assessment skills.
