We are currently seeking On-Site Camp Director for Camp Felix, 2021 (Monday, July 5 - Friday, August 27)
The Camp Director works under direct supervision of the Camp Felix Program Director to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by implementing, managing and leading a successful, safe and effective summer camp program where Camp Felix campers can build positive relationships, learn new skills, improve their self-esteem and develop healthy habits. Specific responsibilities include:
Participate in one-on-one Director training with Program Director prior to camp start.
Assist with program planning, staff recruitment, staff training, and scheduling prior to camp start.
Co-facilitate/lead staff training prior to start of camp including additional training for Food Service Staff.
Assist with ordering/receiving/organizing supplies for camp; ensure that all necessary supplies/items are ready for camp start and are stored properly.
Review all camper applications, allergy and alert lists and medication lists prior to camp start.
Implement the approved health and safety plan in accordance with Health Department regulations, including new COVID-19 safety protocols and CDC guidelines/requirements.
Accommodate all site visits by the Health Department and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
Oversee food service operation in partnership with Food Service Director including all food deliveries; ensure that all SFSP paperwork is being completed in a timely and appropriate manner.
Provide direct supervision to Assistant Director, A&C Director, Athletic Director, Health Director and Aquatics Director and Food Services Manager.
Implement camp mission, vision and goals as well as the camp policies and procedures.
Implement the camp schedule and ensure proper fulfillment of all scheduled activities.
Supervise arrival and departure of campers.
Establish camper cabin lists.
Conduct staff meetings.
Supervise campers and staff at all times (on call 24 hours per day during camp operation).
Work with Assistant Director to coordinate and oversee the volunteer program and CIT (Counselor in Training Program)
Act as liaison with all vendors providing services or products to camp; as well as NYF Communications team to provide PR material as requested.
Oversee the end-of-summer supply inventory process and provide all necessary documentation to Camp Felix admin staff.
Participate in the end-of-summer staff evaluation process.
Conduct cabin inspections twice daily.
Observe camp grounds to ensure the environment is safe and appropriate for all camp activities; report maintenance issues to camp admin staff or groundskeeper immediately.
Provide feedback after camp is over to Camp Felix admin about camp operations and areas in need of improvement.
Serve as an exemplary role model for all camp staff.
Oversee end-of-camp clean up and packing process.
Enforce safety regulations and respond to emergencies immediately; determine best course of action in all emergency situations; spearhead the resolution of all crises, incidents and problems during camp (consult with Camp admin staff as needed).
Maintain a high energy level, positive attitude, and enthusiasm even during trying times; serve as positive role model and example to the rest of the Camp Felix staff.
Complete all necessary paperwork before and during camp session (i.e. incident reports, HR paperwork, DOH paperwork, staff evaluations, inventory lists, etc).
Respond to parent and case planner questions/requests/phone calls during camp.
Other duties as assigned. *Should the situation arise where in-person camp operations are not permitted, Camp Director will work with Program Director to plan and implement a virtual camp program similar to one held in 2020 summer season. Responsibilities will remain the same, with adjustments made to fit a virtual program format.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL NEEDS REQUIRED
Must be at least 25 years old. Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Must have at least 24 weeks of administrative or supervising experience in a summer camp setting. Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of the needs of children in the child welfare system. Must be committed to achieving Camp Felix goals and objectives. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as administrative skills. Must be able to multi-task efficiently. Must be able to communicate effectively with management, donors/sponsors, vendors, contractors, parents, camp staff and campers. Must be able to handle a crisis in a calm and professional manner, following all policies and procedures. Must have superior supervision and management skills; ability to make un-biased decisions quickly, always acting in a professional manner and keeping campers’ and staff needs in mind. Must be flexible, a team player, willing to go above and beyond to achieve Camp Felix goals and ensure a successful summer experience for the campers. First Aid/CPR certification required (if certification is not obtained/updated, must be available to take course before camp starts). Must be available for the entire duration of the assignment, as per dates above (Director training, staff training, and camp sessions)
