The successful candidate will work in the Surface Science function within the Vision Care R&D organization. This person will be responsible for high-level problem solving involving analyses with XPS, ToF-SIMS, FTIR, contact angle and various forms of microscopy. This person will also be involved chemical and material characterization of lens and lens care projects and products. The person will work in a creative and dynamic R&D environment solving problems across all company business units.
Position Responsibilities
Design and execute experimental plans to answer complex questions in R+D and manufacturing environments
Determine the optimal analytical methods to understand the material of interest and gain information needed
Determine optimal preparation and perform preparation of samples for analysis by microscopy or surface analysis
Operate analytical instrumentation under optimal conditions for understanding the material of interest (XPS, TOF-SIMS, SEM, EDS, IR, AFM, contact angle)
Interpret, understand and create reports using from microscopy and surface analysis instrumentation
Communicate results to scientists and engineers in both a written and oral form.
Maintain microscopy analytical equipment in optimal working condition
Participate on cross –functional project teams providing technical expertise related to materials
Required Qualifications
BS with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, MS with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience, or PhD in relevant field.
Previous experience with microscopy and surface analysis especially in operation and understanding of data from several of the following methods: XPS, TOF-SIMS, AFM, contact angle, FT-IR.
Proficient at operation of instrumentation and data interpretation
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in problem solving related to materials, mechanics, and chemistry
Detail oriented with good organizational skills

Good communication and writing skills
Team oriented
