Air Force Materiel Command POLICE OFFICER in Rome, New York

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain law and order, enforce all applicable laws, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

Responsibilities

Performs and enforces a full range of police officer duties within the installation.

Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations on a military installation.

Meets all requirements of Federal, DOD, AF, MAJCOM, state, and local rules and regulations.

Patrols the installation on foot or in vehicles; responds to alarms, irregularities, unusual/suspicious circumstances.

Responds to calls for emergency assistance, coordinates with civilian police, fire, rescue and emergency units.

Performs specialized techniques, procedures and equipment to execute search and apprehension; detect explosives or illegal drugs; counter terrorist operations; or counter violence posing a threat to safety.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Police Series, 0083. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-4/DU-1, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience must include performance of EACH of the following duties: 1) enforcing state and federal laws, directives, regulations, and procedures that govern law enforcement operations, practices and techniques; 2) maintaining and enforcing order to preserve peace, safety, and security; AND 3) protecting property, life, and civil rights.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Anti-Terrorism/Force ProtectionPOLICE OFFICER PROCDURESTeamworkWritten Communication PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
