Job Description:


This position is responsible for independently performing testing and evaluation on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canadian and other International standards; writing reports; and communicating with clients.

This particular lab is a unique, new 9,000 square foot Intertek laboratory providing full service EMC, Medical Safety, Performance, auditory / sound, cycle testing, vibration testing, and more. Located in upstate New York, this lab is situated on a beautiful campus and offers a catered cafeteria with subsidized meals, Starbucks, onsite fitness center ($20/month, open 5am-8pm), rotating fitness classes, locker room, showers, and dry cleaning pick-up service all accessible to Intertek employees.


This position reports to EMC department manager(s) / team leader(s).

  • Independently conduct evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s). To do this, the Engineer must:

  • Read and determine applicability of international and national standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test);

  • Read and understand EUT documentation and testing instructions;

  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability;

  • Under scope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing;

  • Review established test plan for accuracy as well co-write a wireless test plan.

  • Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed;

  • Conduct thorough construction review; document results;

  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards and test plans. Core tests include, but are not limited to radiated and line conducted emissions, ESD, EFT, Radiated RF immunity, surge, conducted RF immunity, magnetic RF immunity, voltage dips and interrupts, peak power band width, and spurious emissions.

  • Supply information for quotes or SWAs such as length of project, site needed, rental equipment, samples, and standards that will be used.

  • Set up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to: spectrum analyzer, oscilloscopes, signal generators, attenuators, filters, power meters, antennas, ESD test set, immunity test set, electric and magnetic field meters, and digital multi meters.

  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that sample is logged in and out of the system. Move equipment as needed through the facility. Properly package sample for shipment.

  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Provide on-going support to clients as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

  • 0-3 years engineering experience

  • Previous wireless experience is a plus

  • Previous EMC experience is a plus

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Excellent organization and time management skills

· Self-motivated and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

· Prior project management experience a plus

· Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters

· Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other International product standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC is preferred


  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form

  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters

  • Excellent communication skills, in both verbal and written formats

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

  • Microsoft Office expertise
