Currently open at Staten Island University Hospital North is a leadership opportunity for a Supervisor Physician Assistant within the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department. Join our supportive and expanding team of four cardiothoracic surgeons and ten physician assistants who strongly value collegiality and teamwork to provide world class cardiothoracic patient care. A schedule consists of 13 hour shifts in various day/night/weekend/holiday rotations as part of an expanding 24/7 coverage model including protected hours for administrative responsibilities. Strong clinical CTS/Critical care skills are required for a successful candidate including the training capability of clinical procedures. Responsibilities also consist of scheduling of the staff department, training, hiring, and performance evaluations.

Schedules, assigns daily duties, and assesses the general performance of the Physician's Assistants in the department. Performs the duties of a Physician's Assistant.1. Supervises, hires, trains, disciplines and evaluates the performance of staff. Ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner. Interviews Physician's Assistant candidates and trains new employees.2. Plans on-call and daily work schedule for the department, ensures 24/7 coverage.3. Oversees the education and training of Physician Assistants rotating in from hospitals outside the Health System. Formally evaluates students at the end of the rotation.4. Keeps abreast of current trends, quality issues and departmental affairs. Provides lectures, discussions and in-service education programs to Physician Assistants, students, residents, nurses, and ancillary personnel.5. Oversees the quality assurance initiatives for the department.6. Performs the duties of a Physician's Assistant, including the handling of the more complex, technical cases, as needed.7. Provides back-up for other medical personnel.8. Performs related duties, as required.

*ADA Essential Functions Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, required.* Graduate of an accredited (Accreditation Review Committee for Physician Assistant Programs (ARC-PA) program, required. * Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) by the New York State Department of Education, required.* Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required.* Current BLS certification, required.* Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible related work experience to ensure technical proficiency, required.
