The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for Part-time Instructor to be a section instructor for COM 617 Multimedia Storytelling (3 credits).

For this term, synchronous sessions will run Thursdays 6:45-8:30 pm, January 10-March 21, 2019.

Course description: This course will primarily cover the production of the video component of a web site. We will examine stories in many forms and analyze story form to become better storytellers in any field. Objectives include: •Understand why stories are important in everyone’s life. •Identify and use the underlying universal themes in stories. •Distinguish among different kinds of stories; think critically about them and understand their explicit and implicit messages. •Identify the characteristics, themes, structures and components of a good story. •Analyze stories and their structures. •Understand why telling stories using multimedia techniques is rapidly growing in all fields of communications today. •Understand the duties of the multimedia producer. •Plan and design stories through concept statements and outlines, and when appropriate with scripts, storyboards, etc. •Learn to use the tools necessary to capture images and sounds that will tell the story. •Learn to edit images, sounds and text to create a cohesive, compelling story. •Publish on the web and learn the basics of how to get viewers by using social media.
