SUNY Upstate Medical University University Police Officer 2 in Syracuse, New York

Schedule based on a 40 hour work week. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Duties include, but are not limited to: Will prepare, maintain and alter schedules; approve, deny and/or recommend requests for leave, insure appropriate staff particularly during periods of peak demand. Will brief staff in preparation for work assignments as assigns staff to posts. Will conduct Roll Call training. Make tours of campus and directly observe staff on the job to evaluate performance. Provide on-site instruction, guidance and direction and will address subordinates' questions. Will acknowledge good performance and take steps to correct unsatisfactory performance. Responsible for responding to scene of incidents and determine appropriate course of action. Will issue directives to staff at scene of incidents to insure proper apprehension of violators. Will prepare a variety of written reports and will review subordinates' reports for accuracy. May conduct and/or oversee complex investigations. May oversee Technical Services, i.e. card access system, CCTV, communications, and accreditation standards. Will consult with Chief and/or Deputy Chief on a regular basis. May assist the Chief and/or Deputy Chief in special assignments and other duties. Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver's license. Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting preferred. New York State Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transfer.
