Primary Function and Scope:
An Electrical Application Engineer provides a technical resource to Sales, Mechanical Applications Engineers, and other teams within PMD. This candidate will develop machine control solutions for automation equipment with an accurate budget and a quote based on the mechanical concept.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Review customer specifications and apply solutions based on available hardware and costing
Specify Vision applications hardware and setup solutions
Specify PLC models and manufactures as required
Select electrical hardware to meet project requirements
Select pneumatic and hydraulic systems based on customer or PMD specifications
Maintain costing library of electrical hardware used in the automation industry
Apply worldwide safety standards
Ensure robots meet PMD's and the customer specifications
Mentor other engineers in the applications department on electrical standards
Review incoming vendor quotes and outgoing PMD quotations for completeness
Present PMD's machine solutions to prospective customers
Review machine concepts for safety requirements
Work with PMD shop and controls engineering department to assure that quotes are in agreement with PMD's capabilities and standard practices
Qualification Requirements: an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.
Education And Experience:
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Applicant must possess a strong working knowledge of assembly and test automation industries with a minimum of three (3) years of automation machine design.
Knowledge of worldwide electrical and safety standards
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical procedures
Ability to write technical reports
Comfortable in presenting concepts and pricing information in a clear, concise manner suitable for technical audiences
Effective in listening and note-taking

Required Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Familiar with AutoCAD or DraftSight
Preferred experience in robot, PLC, and vision programming
Preferred experience in electrical hardware machine control design
Preferred experience in the ability to develop software tools to save time or improve the quality of quote
